Photography and composition of a music magazine

One of the most appealing and eye catching factors of magazines are the cover images. The reason for this is not only because it is largest portion of the magazine and easiest to notice but it is due to the variations of compositions and poses that can be used. Also the range of colours that can be included for example the tattoos on the image to the right. I noticed that in the the main image for the majority of these  images there is a clear use of depth and layers as the text varies from background and foreground.

In the top left image you can see the range of depth as the band/ group are infront of each other. The composition also clearly shows that the guy in the foreground is most likely the lead singer.
The top left image however only features one subject. It is clear this time that he is obviously the lead singer as he is holding a microphone. Using props can be very effective as the can signify the subjects role and even more important the magazines role. By using the vest you can see the large proportion of tattoos. The bottom left image has the girl leaning into the camera making her stand out more. Compared to the other images I think that this image is the least effective because of the poor lighting to the right of her face, although this is most likely deliberate I feel as though it removes clarity from the image. The final image, the bottom right is very effective as the medium close up works really well and shows of a the majority of her costume. I also noticed that the costume and colours used in this image all relate and look effective together.
